The password is "connections."
This week we have explored the importance and meaning of connections. In particular, we have focused on some of the technology tools that we can use as educators to enable our students to connect to each other, tools that we can use to connect to other educators and the shift that's taken place demonstrating the importance of these connections.
I have always believed that making connections is important. I often tell my students that the smartest people I know are the ones who are best at making connections. When I talk about this, though, it refers to connections between content areas, across curricular areas and between theory and real-world applications. When closely examined, the connections we've been talking about in class aren't that different. Today's world revolves around connections that are lightening fast, diverse and more important than ever.
As such, it has become clear that we must teach our students how to effectively make, use and maintain connections with the world around them.
**Interesting note: When google searching quotations from The Great Gatsby to support the title of this blog post, I came across a blog titled "The Snark Notes," which is a web 2.0 version of the famous "Sparks Notes." In a post entitled, "The Great Gatsby, Chapter Four: WTF Is a Gonnegtion?" the author connected The Great Gatsby to Mad Men, The Simpsons, The Rolling Stones and The Talking Heads.
Connections-more important for our students than ever.
