Both my hopes and expectations really revolve around a single concept - networking.
One of the things that I appreciate the most about professional development and moving to the "other side of the desk" is the ability to discuss with my colleagues. The people I work with at our school are the best educators I have ever met. My hope, therefore, is that we will be given lots of time to talk to each other and discuss powerful ideas. I hope that we will brainstorm strategies to incorporate those ideas into our teaching as soon as it is appropriate. I hope that we will be connected to the technologies that are making the most difference right now and those that are about to make a difference. That said, I hope to learn more about teaching the collaboration skills that Will Richardson mentions in his article, World Without Walls. It's apparent that introducing technology into my classes is about far more than teaching students how to use a computer program. Finally, I hope that my teaching will change for the positive as a result of all of those connections and ideas.
I expect that the teachers of this class will make the provisions expressed in my hopes. I would expect the level of collegiality to be high, and I would expect to be exposed to new and exciting technologies. I expect to negotiate the task of teaching "Digital Natives." After reading about them, it seems like we may be able to spend less time on the tech and more time on the purpose. I expect to learn something new, each class, from them or my colleagues and I expect to walk away feeling like my students will benefit from my experience in this class.
